The Estonian Open Air Museum is located in the middle of a forest and by the sea, which probably makes it one of the museum’s with the cleanest and freshest air in Estonia.
We encourage and teach people to value and responsibly preserve the rural heritage and appreciate the traditional way of life.  Our

  • New permanent exhibition ‘Every little step counts’!

    Make sure to visit the new family-friendly permanent exhibition ‘Every little step counts’ at the Estonian Open Air Museum.

    This exhibition intended for family exploration features games and activities through which children can learn what life on a farm was like in the old days and provokes discussion on whether we can learn something from our ancestors and what it could be.

    In addition, here you can see the animals traditionally kept on Estonian farms.

  • Free audio guide app NUMU 

    The app contains an audio guide for the whole exhibition and an adventurous orienteering game introducing our farms and Estonian history through playful characters.

  • The museum’s summer season programme

    Learn more about exciting things to do at the Estonian Open Air Museum!

    The historic village is a great place to spend time with your family in the fresh air. Step into the museum’s houses and learn from the lady of the house about how they once lived and experience the different farm work that used to be done.

  • Horse-drawn carriage rides in the museum (during hot weather, the horse rests)    

    Horses Horton and Teele take visitors on a ride. 


    The horse stop is located opposite the Kolu Tavern and horse-drawn carriage rides are available daily from 11:00 AM to 3:45 PM.

ESTONIAN BREAD DAY AND AUTUMN FAIR "Cuisine of Different Nations"

At Estonian Bread Day we take a look at how bread is made starting from threshing and grinding grain to the way to eat the bread. Other older Estonian dishes are also introduced. Tasty Estonian food and authentic handicraft can be bought from autumn fair.
