When store shelves only had pig tails and cow udders, what was eaten? What was on the everyday table? What was on the feast table?

We offer kitchen and food enthusiasts the opportunity to participate in the activities of a Soviet housewife to set the coffee table for guests or to prepare a Sunday lunch for the family.

Together, we'll prepare some forgotten collective farm era dishes and try to manage with the kitchen technology of that time. We'll set up a period-appropriate table and enjoy the food, which despite all the difficulties, tastes great.

While the dishes are being prepared and waiting their turn, we'll take a guided tour of the house, learn about Soviet-era food trends and curiosities, and take a look at the era's classic cookbooks.

  •  A Peipus-Russian tea night and candle rolling workshop

Example package

Candle has always been a symbol of warmth, light and holiness. Beeswax candles are considered to be the most valuable since they do not release soot when burned and have a positive effect on health.

At the workshop we make beeswax candles by using the rolling method which is traditional to the Old Believers. A handmade candle has special energy and its burning creates a festive atmosphere. It is a beautiful present for yourself or for your loved ones.

While rolling candles it is nice to drink tea next to it. Tea drinking is one of the most important rituals in the day of the Old Believers. A good tea is always made in a samovar and tastes the best when you sip it from the saucer and bite sweet keedusukker with cream next to it.
