Traditional Seto patterns by Anna Kõivo

At the age of 88, Kõivo Anne created the current exhibition of hammõkirät – the sleeve patterns of Seto women’s shirts. The shirt is one of the most striking garments in a Seto woman’s attire.

Saint George's Day

Spring Day and spring fair

May 1 or May Day is a holiday celebrating the arrival of Spring. On the farms in the museum you can take part in springtime work and there is a large spring fair on the main road of the museum. You're welcome to enjoy the spring at our museum!

Estonian Bread Day and autumn fair

In the midst of the vibrant harvest season, we invite everyone interested in traditional Estonian food to visit us. The star of the day is homemade rye bread. Visitors can explore the story of Estonian bread – from threshing grain to baking the loaf. We will choose the best homemade bread and host a craft and food fair.

When the autumn field work and grazing are over, it is time to celebrate properly. At the onion and fish day of the borderlands, you are awaited by celebrations of the harvest festival of the Seto people and the Russian Old Believers.

Martinmas and St. Catherine’s Day

In the dark time of late autumn, St. Martin’s Day (10 November) and St. Catherine’s Day (25 November) are among the most delightful holidays passed down to us by our ancestors. During the November season of remembering the departed, when autumn’s outdoor work is done, masked figures go from house to house – the boisterous Martinmas guisers and the graceful Catherine’s guisers.

Christmas village

The Estonian Open Air Museum invites you to experience a bright Christmas season in different eras. Santa Claus will also be strolling around the inn, listening to beautiful carols and poems. Christmas decoration workshops are waiting for the nimble fingers, and music lovers can listen to the beautiful sound of choirs in the Sutlepa Chapel.
